High-Speed Laser Tuner
The High-Speed Laser Tuner is part of the Elite Toothbrush Project. Each brushhead requires tuning to a specific resonant frequency to work in the product. Tuning is performed within the assembly line at a rate of 1800 units per hour.
This is accomplished by first measuring the incoming frequency curve with a doppler vibrometer. The output curve is then used to determine an adjustment to the motor springs, done by cutting small slices off the drive springs.
After the tuning target is determined, the springs are cut with two 750 Watt Nd:YAG laser systems as the brush head is passed by on a rotary indexer.
The final brush head tuning is then verified with a second laser doppler vibrometer system, and the brush head is returned to the transfer pallet using the robot.
